Amplify Premium Fuels
There are 3 Amplify Premium fuels:
- Amplify Premium 98 is our highest octane petrol, formulated to meet the exact requirements of the latest high-compression, turbo-charged and performance engines.
- Amplify Premium 95 combines a high octane, friction reducer and rust inhibitor to help give more power and improve performance compared to regular, unadditised petrol.
- Amplify Premium Diesel contains advanced additives to help restore and maintain fuel injector cleanliness.
All 3 contain our unique, multi function additives that help to clean your engine for better performance.
The industry standard testing for clean-up performance allows additive suppliers to benchmark the performance of their products against competitors and a reference fuel in a controlled environment. The test engine specifications and the reference fuel type have been agreed upon as a global standard to ensure consistency when comparing the performance data internationally. It is impossible to recreate this type of testing using every different type of engine in production. Furthermore, the final results may vary depending on the engine itself, environmental conditions, other factors such as variability in engine load factor and driver behaviours.
In addition to industry standard tests, Ampol Australia has conducted local testing encompassing engine dynamometers, chassis dynamometers, highly accurate fuel flow meters and on-road driving tests close to real word conditions. The fundamental benefit of Amplify Premium Fuels is they clean up and keep clean the fuel system, and this has been demonstrated in a range of different sized engines – including those used in the industry standard testing.
Amplify Premium Diesel contains an advanced multi-function additive that includes a cleaning agent and rust inhibitor which clean and protect your engine as you drive. It also has an anti-foaming agent which reduces the incidence of foaming during refuelling for a cleaner and faster fill experience. The multi-function additive is not present in regular diesel, only Amplify diesel hence why we differentiate this product as premium.
The cleaning agent in Amplify Premium fuels starts working immediately but the resultant benefit will be dependent upon the level of injector fouling. Continuous use of Amplify Premium Diesel will result in the clean-up of fuel injector deposits, keep clean of fuel system components and the potential recovery of lost power and fuel efficiency. The time this will take will vary according to vehicle condition, driver behaviour and trip characteristics.
Amplify Premium fuels can be safely mixed with any regular, unadditised fuels. However, by diluting Amplify Premium, you will also dilute its benefits. Mixing regular, unadditised fuel and Amplify Premium will also lower the octane rating. If your vehicle requires a minimum octane rating of 95, for example, the blend may fall below this and hinder the performance of your vehicle until the fuel is changed.
Amplify Premium fuels are the only fuels in Australia using our unique, next-generation additive package. We believe they are the best Premium fuels we’ve ever created in terms of quality, performance and the range of benefits they offer.
Over time, combustion of the fuel and the presence of micro-impurities can lead to deposits forming on the outside surfaces of the injector at the nozzle and within the injector moving parts. These deposits can restrict the flow of fuel as it exits the nozzle tip and also lead to binding of the internal injector components. Amplify Premium Fuels help to remove these internal and external deposits to improve the flow of fuel and allow the engine to recover its lost power.
Many new vehicles can take advantage of the Ampol Amplify premium petrol. Their higher octane and superior additive technology will result in better fuel efficiency and improvement in power and torque. Furthermore, the advanced cleaning agent in Amplify Premium petrol will attack power robbing deposits that form on the inner and outer injector surfaces to help restore power and improve overall performance.
The numbers relate to the octane rating of the petrol. Both 95 and 98 are high octane.
Many newer or turbocharged engines require high octane fuel to perform as intended.
Combustion Catalysts work to improve the efficiency of the combustion process by acting as a catalyst. They can include organometallic compounds, such as ferrocene.
These compounds decompose in the combustion chamber in the early stages of the combustion process to form a metal oxide (such as iron oxide). This metal oxide then acts as a catalyst in the oxidation of unburnt fuel particles in the later stages of combustion.
However, over time their use can be detrimental to the engine and its performance due to their tendency to form deposits on fuel injectors. The main issue with combustion catalysts is that they contain metallic components that form ash (residue) when burnt. This ash can deposit on fuel injectors and build-up on diesel particulate filters. The build-up of ash deposits on fuel injectors can impact combustion efficiency by adversely impacting the fuel spray pattern and thus fuel/air mixing within the combustion chamber. This can result in lower power output for the given amount of fuel burnt, increased fuel consumption, and potential higher emissions of unburnt hydrocarbons. For this reason, their use is generally not recommended and is the reason why Amplify Premium Diesel does not contain a combustion catalyst.
Most vehicle manufacturers provide guidance about the recommended fuel for your vehicle. Minimum requirements of the recommended fuel will take into account the broad availability of fuel grades across the country. Ampol Amplify premium fuels contain a multi-function additive that is designed to clean and protect the fuel system of your vehicle as you drive. Our premium petrol grades also have higher RON (Research Octane Number) than regular unleaded petrol and provide additional combustion efficiency benefits in modern engines.
Amplify Premium Diesel was developed for on-road applications. Amplify Diesel HD performance diesel was developed for heavy duty, high load applications such as mining, construction and power generation equipment. The formulation has been optimised to clean up and keep clean the fuel system under the demanding conditions presented in these working environments.
Although the fuels are interchangeable between machinery and engines the availability of the fuels does differ. Amplify Diesel HD is only available in bulk for delivery direct into on-site tanks whereas Amplify Premium Diesel is available at over 1,400 retail sites nationally and via bulk delivery.
There are 4 key benefits that separate Amplify Premium fuels from regular, unadditised fuels. They contain our unique, multi function additives that help your engine work at its peak.
All Amplify Premium fuels
CLEANING AGENT
Our unique cleaning agent helps detox engines by removing fuel injector deposits as you drive. This can help restore engine performance.
RUST INHIBITOR
Over time abrasive rust particles can build up and cause engine parts to wear. Our rust inhibitor prevents the formation of rust, helping to keep engines healthier for longer.
Amplify Premium 95 and 98
FRICTION REDUCER
Metal parts in an engine can rub together while the engine is running.
Our friction reducing additive keeps parts moving freely and protects against engine wear.
Amplify Premium Diesel
FOAM INHIBITOR
Regular diesel can foam as drivers fill up. This can be messy and may take longer to fill.
Our new anti-foaming agent helps overcome both of these issues for a cleaner and faster fill that forms no stable foam.
Most modern petrol and diesel engines employ high pressure direct fuel injection systems for optimum control of the fuel flow. This type of system places the injector inside the combustion chamber where it is directly exposed to the temperature and pressure of combustion. Deposits form when small amounts of fuel remain on the injector tip surface after the engine is stopped. The residual heat in the injector effectively cooks the fuel leading to a carbon-based deposit forming on the injector surface.
A second source of deposits originates from micro-contaminants in the fuel itself. The modern supply chain of fuel is complex and involves refining, sea freight, pipelines, tanker trucks and retail dispensing. Micro-contaminants form due the additives that may be introduced during the refining process, salt contamination during shipping and insufficient filtration in the vehicle itself.
Both of these sources of deposits can lead to blocked nozzles in the injector tip and binding of the internal injector mechanism which can affect the flow of fuel into the combustion chamber. At best, the fuel flow may be restricted and potential uneven spray pattern which leads to a loss of power. At worst, the injector may work intermittently or will severely restrict the flow of fuel which can lead to a significant loss of power.
Everyone. No matter what the age or condition of the engine, the cleaning effect of our additives can help to output more power, achieve better acceleration and smoother running.
High octane Amplify Premium 95 and 98 are suitable for all vehicles designed to run on unleaded petrol.
Ampol Amplify Premium fuels have been developed and tested to suit tough Australian conditions. We continually improve our extensive range of fuels to ensure we keep pace with engine technology developments. In 2020, we are launching Ampol Amplify Premium Petrol - our most advanced technology with better cleaning performance in direct injection gasoline engines – and Amplify Premium Diesel fuel with the latest deposit control additive technology with proven performance thru industry standards and local trials.
The Worldwide Fuel Charter (WWFC) for Gasoline and Diesel Fuel, provides guidelines on how fuel quality can significantly affect engine and vehicle operation, durability and emissions performance. Its sixth edition published in 2019, states that the conformity of modern engines with their specified performance in terms of power, fuel consumption and emissions over time will depend largely on the cleanliness of their injectors.
